Inspired Minds & Empowered Communicators
Whilst preparing our learners, our curricula aim to:
Provide personalised learning experiences that cater to the unique needs, interests, and backgrounds of each learner.
Foster a sense of inclusion and support by connecting learning to real-world contexts and experiences, including, where possible, field trips and community engagements.
Ensure a logical progression and continuity of learning, providing students with a solid foundation for future growth and success in drama or speech. This includes scaffolded learning, starting with basic vocal and physical techniques and progressing to advanced concepts like character development, storytelling, and stage presence.
Support the development of performance and communication skills while nurturing learners' confidence, creativity, and critical thinking abilities. For instance, learners may learn persuasive language techniques or engage in impactful presentations.
Embrace a holistic approach to education by incorporating multiple disciplines, including drama, art, music, and English. This interdisciplinary approach enriches learning experiences and promotes a deeper development of knowledge and skills.
Promote diversity, inclusivity, and cultural competence within the curriculum to create a learning environment where every learner feels valued, respected, and empowered. This involves integrating diverse voices, perspectives, and examples throughout the curriculum.
In order to achieve these aims we:
Scaffold concepts and skills from simple to complex, guiding learners through gradual steps of understanding and mastery.
Implement differentiated teaching methods, collaborative learning (where possible), and scenario-based activities to meet the varied learning approaches and preferences of learners.
Provide ongoing assessment and feedback to monitor learner progress and support continuous improvement. This includes discreet low-risk assessments such as quizzes, annotations and presentations.
Where possible, integrate live or recorded examples, case studies, and guest speakers from relevant industries to demonstrate the practical applications of the curriculum and inspire deeper engagement.
Actively engage learners' prior knowledge and experiences to create connections that help make learning more meaningful and relevant. This fosters confidence and motivation, encouraging exploration of new creative possibilities.
Incorporate digital literacy skills and technology integration to prepare learners for success in the 21st century. This involves providing opportunities to learn about digital portfolios and self-tapes.
Continuously evaluate and refine the curriculum based on feedback from learners, families, and other stakeholders, while staying abreast of changes in educational research and best practices. This includes reviewing current literature, attending professional development workshops, and collaborating with external colleagues to ensure alignment with evolving needs.
